Alex came over the same day I initially called him for a quote and explained the job of tiling the floors of my entryway and two bathrooms. He kept in touch regularly and followed through on his plans for the work in my home. I learned I could count on him. Pete from OCD did an awesome job building two decks for me. I am a little bit picky and care about the small details and I rarely give good reviews. But the deck is so well built and even met all my picky requests. I am touched by how solid the foundation and structure they built and how much effort they put on achieving this high standard for something unseen-able from the surface without taking shortcuts. When I finally decided it was time to replace my deck, I knew I had a bit of a project ahead of me. Several boards had rotted through completely, and I was starting to worry about safety. The railing wasn’t much better; it felt loose. I take a lot of pride in my home, and the deck had become something I was embarrassed by. I went online and started looking for some help. Typing in a few search terms on Google, including deck builders near me and deck builder Grand Rapids, I hoped to find someone with good reviews and a professional reputation. I contacted several companies and eventually received eight different quotes. The pricing ranged quite a bit. The person behind one of them stood out. Alex, the owner of OCD Building and Remodeling, came out to take a look. He didn’t rush through the inspection. He walked around, and talked me through what he was seeing. He explained the condition of my deck in clear terms. He pointed out what was salvageable and what was a risk. Alex’s quote came in somewhere in the middle, but I chose him not because of the price, but because of how he treated me. The deck is a fairly decent size, about twenty-six feet wide and twelve and a half feet deep. At the beginning, I figured we’d just be replacing the surface boards and the railings. But once the old boards were removed, it became clear that the structure had major problems. Several of the four by six support posts underneath were rotting away. When Alex discovered these issues, he didn’t panic or try to pressure me into anything. He explained the situation and gave me a change order to approve. It was professional, and handled exactly how I would want a contractor to manage unexpected problems. What impressed me most is how far he went beyond what was required. He rebuilt parts of the deck frame, reinforced areas, and made sure everything was up to code, and truly strong. One of my neighbors came over and said, “I think you could park a truck on this thing.” I laughed, but honestly, he’s right. Since the project was completed, I’ve had multiple friends and neighbors admire the work. One neighbor even asked for Alex’s contact info. The compliments keep coming. We found OCD Building & Remodeling, Inc (Alex - Owner) via Google search to request a bid for a full ~600 sq ft deck replacement @ our 54 yr old home on Wolf Lake (Mich). Alex offered to drive up and review the requested SoW with us. At initial bid, OCD wasn’t the least expensive of the 3, but there was something about his communication, his personality, and knowledge that helped us move forward and award this project to OCD. 1st day on site, during demo of existing deck, Alex discovered some wood rot and compromised structural integrity of the foundation of this uniquely designed home. The communication, professionalism, listening skills, flexibility, and incredible building knowledge helped us make a decision to move forward with an exploratory process to understand the depth of the structural issues. Alex communicated options extremely well and helped guide us to awarding OCD an extensive structural modification to the entire front (lake facing) of the home. As he collaborated with his resources (a structural engineering PE, county building officials, and the owner), Alex created a plan, leading his team to a spectacular and creative rebuild. This project included an entirely new 28’ front wall, a portion of the side walls, all new floor joists, custom glass, (2) 8’ sliding doors, etc. We were so pleased with his work that we extended Change Orders to include all new windows, sliding doors, etc. We are 100% satisfied with OCD’s quality of construction, communication, focus on details, execution of the plan, incredible and creative attitude, engagement on a timely basis with the owner, fair pricing, and an emphasis of quality everything…absolutely no shortcuts! This owner will give OCD highest of compliments for completion to our satisfaction! What began as a deck rebuild, evolved into massive home rebuild that required skill, time, and patience. If you are looking for a contractor who takes the time to listen and does excellent quality work, Alex is your guy. I have many times been burned, overcharged or ghosted by other contractors. I am so impressed I almost have to pinch myself. He gets the job done when he says he will and the attention to detail is beyond excellent. He also does a great job cleaning up afterwards which many other people I had in the past did not do. Here is a list of the things he helped me with: pull out laminate that was gouged up, replace it and finish trim work around floors and ceilings. Also helped me by repairing holes left in the wall (from a previous person who lived there); pull out ugly brown chipped tile that didn’t match and put down new. He also rehung my big flat screen Tv and had an electrician come to fix the wiring so I didn’t have to see the cords, and set up for a ceiling fan which Alex also installed. He also put together a shelving unit that I couldn’t figure out. Besides all these things he also listened to my teenagers and they think he is super cool too. I would definitely recommend and hope he doesn’t get too busy so I can get more remodeling things done in the future.

This review is way overdue, please accept my apology for that. As an engineer and perfectionist myself, the tile work done by OCD was nothing short of amazing. I can tell when someone is putting their all into the work they are doing, and making sure thigs are as perfect as possible. This was the case here. Alex also acted as a General Contractor and helped to secure electrical work to help finish my basement remodel. Only regret I have is not continuing to utilize his GC skills in finding and securing drywall and mechanical work to finish my job!
